PASTEL COLORED BUBBLE LIGHT - STEP BY STEP
Although you do not need an excuse to throw yourself into creative pursuits, the world situation is a pretty good reason to give these popular candles a shot . We are developing a fragrance oil and needed a test product - imitate the art and put your own stamp on the pastel colored bubbles.
- Bowl / glass for water bath
- Stick to hold the wick on space
- Color pigment
- Fragrance oil
If you do not have candles in stock, you can buy a pack of chandeliers, close them in a bag and beat them to pieces with a hammer. That way you get both stearin and wicks. We have bought a package in pure candle from IKEA for 59 kroner for 50 candles, which gives about 18 bubble candles.
HOW TO DO IT:
01. PREPARE YOUR WATER BATH
Find a pot and fill it with 1/3 part water - turn on the flame and bring the water to a boil while you prepare the remaining materials.
02. STEARIN + COLOR PIGMET
Fill a bowl or heat-resistant glass with stearin and add any color pigment to the mixture. If you mix pigment in, do not be put off by the fact that the mixture, before it has hardened, looks a bit dark - it hardens brighter. With that said, a bit of pigment goes a long way - be careful not to overdo it and add a bit at a time.
03. LET THE MIXTURE MELT OVER THE WATER BATH
Place your bowl or glass over or in the water bath and let it melt until there are no more solid lumps left - it takes time so while you wait you just jump on to point 04 below.
04. PREPARATION OF SHAPE
Punch a hole in the mold and pull the wick through - then tie the wick around a stick and pull so that the wick is tightened and thus kept straight during the molding process.
If necessary, place your mold on a plate with flour or sugar and press the mold into place with your fingers - it supports the mold so that it does not become flat at the top when the candle mass is poured i.
05. POUR THE STEARIN IN
Now that your mold is ready and your stearin is melted and free of lumps, you can either add fragrance oil or simply pour the wax mass into the mold. Stir if the color is not completely even and pour in until the mold is completely filled. Save a bit!
06. ADD MORE STEARIN
The stearin may sink a little when it solidifies - to get a smooth bottom, you just punch a hole in the solidified layer and fill up with more stearin.
Let your light set - shake it if necessary and check for any liquid if you are not sure if the light has finished hardening. Arrow the shape of the candle, cut the wick off the stick at the bottom and trim the wick at the top. If the light is a little uneven, you can use a butter knife to peel a little stearin off the bottom.
08. TURN ON & ENJOY!
The light is done! Turn it on, enjoy it and make some more!
The mold can be bought individually in several places online for less than 40 kroner - you can also buy a mold with 6 so you can cast several candles at a time.
Have fun (-:
